Gunmen kill Imam known for anti-drug stance in Cotabato City

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Gunmen shot dead Wednesday a crusading Muslim cleric who was active in helping push the government’s anti-narcotics campaign forward.

Imam Rene Solaiman was on his way home to Barangay Bagua III riding a motorcycle when he was ambushed by two men armed with pistols.

He died instantly from multiple gunshot wounds sustained in the attack.

Solaiman was very vocal against drug traffickers in their neighborhood and in nearby barangays, according to friends and relatives.
