The vice mayor of Trece Martires City, Cavite became the latest casualty in the list of slain local government officials after he was ambushed Saturday afternoon. His driver was also killed.
Superintendent Chitadel Gaoiran, Police Regional Office (PRO4-A) spokesman, identified the fatality as Vice Mayor Alexander Lubigan, who was shot while traveling in his Toyota Hilux vehicle in Barangay Luciano, Trece Martires.
Initial investigation showed that Lubigan’s vehicle was traversing the Trece-Indang Road when a black Mitsubishi Montero appeared and its occupants started to open fire at the Toyota Hilux.
The Tactical Operations Center (TOC) received the report of the ambush at 3:15 p.m. It later confirmed Lubigan had died in the attack and that the assailants had fled the scene.
Lubigan’s driver, Romulo Guillemer, was taken to the General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital, but died later, Gaoiran said.
Lubigan is the third high-ranking local government official to be killed just this week.
He ran as vice mayor under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) in the last local elections.
Chief Superintendent Edward E. Carranza, PRO4-A director, said the motive in the attack on Lubigan is still under investigation.
